Description of the experience

The municipal apiary was built in 1925, on the order of the local Franc Lapajne, an important lace merchant. The construction of the apiary was carried out by master carpenter Jože Kenda, and it was made according to a model or a picture from a German professional beekeeping book published in 1910.

The special feature of this beehive, which separates it from the traditional form of the Slovenian beehive, is the extended central part, made of mesh windows of thin profiles. The apiary was not only intended for dealing with bees, but the owners, members of the Lapajne family from Idrija, also used it for occasional meetings and socializing with friends and enjoying their free time.

You are invited to socialize in front of the apiary with a tasting of local beekeepers' honey and honey delicacies.
